Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

1. Mission: To serve our parish community by assisting the ordinary ministers (bishops, priests, and deacons) with the distribution of the Most Holy Precious Body and Blood of Holy Communion.

2. Purpose: The main purpose of our ministry as listed in our mission is to allow us, the lay people, extraordinary ministers, to assist with the distribution of the Precious Body and Blood of Holy Communion during mass. This is a wonderful ministry that allows us to literally hold Jesus, the Bread of Life, in our hands and share it with the faithful. We share Holy Communion with others both in the church or with our Homebound Ministry, where some ministers will bring communion to our parishioners who are unable to join us at church. We have a small part in the mass, but a major role for bringing Christ to others. We don’t meet like other organizations because we are part of the liturgical services. Trainings are held periodically throughout the year. Special arrangements can be made for trainings by speaking with one of the coordinators.

3. Requirements:  Age 18 and up. An understanding of the Celebration of the Mass and belief in the real presence of Christ.  Role model to the faithful. One who leads by reverence and devotion.  A registered parishioner of St Rose of Lima. A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and if married, is married in accordance with Church Law.  In complete compliance with all Safe Environment requirements as outlined by the Archdiocese of San Antonio (i.e. criminal background check, VIRTUS training, etc.).  More information about the requirements are attached in the respective training guides in English and Spanish (please included)

This ministry is open to both English and Spanish speakers.

4. No external meeting schedule, just a schedule for serving masses which is posted on the parish website every 3 months.
